New Edo Dyeing Marukyu Shoten Reproduction of Tenugui Iku character connection >
The pattern is made up of multiple overlapping hiragana "ku" characters. Like knitted fabric, it has a certain warmth to it within its orderly structure.
Some people wear it as a half-collar for a casual look.
The "Reproduction Tenugui" is a reproduction of a traditional Ise stencil pattern originally used for yukata, newly dyed and made into a tenugui. Ise stencil paper, designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property, is not just used as a stencil for dyeing, but is a traditional craft technique that is valued for the artistic quality of its patterns and is used in art objects. The "Reproduction Tenugui" uses stencils that are carefully selected for each season from the many collections of Ise stencil paper owned by Marukyu Shoten, and each product embodies the finest craftsmanship of the artisans of that time.
